NORTHERN DISTRICTS CLASSIC, SUNDAY 4TH DECEMBER 2011 Sunday, 4th December in the picturesque Chittering Valley will see the final road race for 2011 with the running of the Northern Districts Classic proudly sponsored by TBE. Download your flyer here STATE JUNIOR ROAD CHAMPIONSHIPS - 31/7/11In what was wet, windy and somewhat miserable conditions today the State Junior Road Championships was run and won. The U17 boys again proved that they are a hard bunch to separate with the only sprint finish of the day. The conditions called for smart riding and to the credit of all competing this is what we got.Sarah Tucknott displayed her outstanding form as she lapped the U13 field and was the Girls winner. The U13 boys finshed with Jack Hodges (Gold), Kieran Scott (Silver) and Kasey Smith (bronze) in his first road race. In the U15 boys race and backing up from his great result in Canberra we saw Michael Storer (Gold) ahead of Matthew Jackson (Silver) and Darcy Pirotta (Bronze). U15 girls had the only crash of the race with Nikken Jefferies calling it a day whilst Jemilla Anderson rode into gold with Shannon Sherwin (Silver) and Brook Ramshaw (Bronze). In the U17 girls it was Elissa Wundersitz (Gold), Tian Beckett (Silver) and Emily McRedmond (Bronze) and a pre-race favourite, Kelsey Robson puncturing mid-race. The U17 boys turned it on in the only sprint finish with Theo Yates taking the prized gold medal ahead of Reece Tucknott (Silver) and Sam Welsford (Bronze). It was a non Championship race for the U19's which saw Nathan Lyons home ahead of Trent Derecourt and Joshua Hills (also in his first race). Julia Kalotas was the only U19 female rider of the day.A number of new riders made their debut today across all grades. All you pros doing the WAR ride it's just around the corner from where you finish so Neil will see you there?????MEL HOSKINS EUROPEAN BLOG - 13/7/11After a solid month of training in Adelaide, I left for Italy. I Arrived in Verese with the AIS Jayco Development team on the 18th of May. Our first race would be 4 days later on the 22nd in Italy, GP Cornaredo, Italy UCI event over 120kms 22nd May. GP Cornaredo, Italy UCI 120 kmsMy first race back in Europe, my first UCI road race a, 120km flat hot circuit race. This was the first time I had raced with a real team before and been given the sprint role. So it was pretty exciting! There would have been around 120 riders, and around 80 finished it was a bunch kick with 3 turns within the last 500m. I was left to my own devices as my team had worked hard all day and after not racing in Europe for a while it took a little while for me to get the confidence back in the bunch especially leading into the sprint. But I managed to get a 7th and was happy with a top 10 for my first race. It was a positive step for the whole team and I knew that it was something we could improve on.Aalburg UCI 1.2 Holland 2011117km and the windiest race I have ever ridden and have never been put in the gutter as many times as I did in this race. It was one of the hardest races I have ever done due to the wind. HTC were also there with Chloe Hosking and Marriane Vos was also riding.Waarschoot , Belgium2 hrs - pretty crappy boring race 2 hours away on the French border. It was pretty wet but the rain stopped when we raced. With only a small bunch of riders (maybe 50) most of finished. Two of our girls crashed with one rejoining. Both were okay. It was a pretty messy finish but I managed to stay upright and came in second. Gooik UCI 1.2 Belgium 20111 hr 40 - feeling super strong all day and held good position. Having Jessie up the road in a move hoping she would get the win, I went for the bunch kick for third but was too far back leading into the last bend. I sprinted for a long time but managed to gain places finishing in 7th while Jessie got beaten and finished up second. Begijnendijk, Belgium1 hr - around 70 starters. Felt awesome all race and we were aggressive. Controlled the race from start to finish, and got to put our lead out train into practice. Didnt all go according to plan and I was only left with my last lead-out rider, Jessie. With 1km to go, we were boxed in and I was glued on her wheel but the opening came with 500m to go and we went. Was one of the best sprint finishes I had. Won by over 10 meters, my first win in Europe, it was awesome. We had raced plenty more Kermesse (a longer form of criterum) over the next few weeks, so many in fact I lost track of the races and it all gets blurred into one. The UCI races were the toughest, and I hadn't had much luck, either crashing or cobbles making it difficult to cope with my injury. Cobbles are a truly crazy experience. You have to ride them to understand. I have a love hate. I love to ride them and I can ride them really well, but my body hates me for it. There is something about the danger and rush you get the makes it exciting and at times you almost want to laugh! My next win came at a race again in Belgium. Grote Prijs Stad Boutersum. It was a Kermesse, 4 laps of a 22km circuit. There were a few professional riders there including a girl from Gamin Cervelo whom I had a raced a few times before and for some reason had never taken a liking to me. My job all day was to sit in. The finish suited me, long and straight and wide. Everything was going to plan and it was going to be a bunch kick. The girls had chased moves and done everything I had asked of them all day so it was my turn to finish it off! Coming into the last 2km it was all a downhill run. I was on the back of a team lead-out and was jostling for position with the girl from Garmin. Coming into the last corner, she chopped me into the gutter leaving me to jump the footpath and get back onto the road behind her. I let her in front of me and we were 700m out from the finish when my team mate Jessie came charging past. I jumped on her wheel only to have it stolen by the Garmin rider. Again I let her have it because I knew Jessie was tired and wasnt going to make it. Sure enough 500m out Jessie blows leaving the Garmin girl on the front with no choice but to go, a perfect lead-out. I took my second win in Europe and couldnt be happier. Had an amazing team to see me through right to the finish!My last race with the road girls would be Rabo Ster. A race the Jayco track endurance girls would also be riding. After this race I would be leaving the AIS Jayco squad. The Rabo Ster tour was a 3 day tour in Holland. A UCI tour race, the start list included Marianne Vos and many other top riders. There were 180 scheduled to start the tour. The first stage was a 5km prologue. Cant say it was my greatest result. But I was in the top half! The second and third stages were tough. I didnt have much of a team around me so I really had to fend for myself. The first road day I crashed 16km in and had to chase to get back on. I moved straight to the front to try and avoid it happening again. Coming into the finish there was a breakaway of 3 that stayed away and we were racing for the minor places. There was a big crash 10km which saw my last 22 teammates come down, all were okay but disappointed. I rolled into the finish with the main bunch running 14th over all. The second day was the hardest day by far. The wind we hadnt seen in the tour so far decided to all come at once. The split went in the first 5km and I was lucky to be on the right side. From the 180 girls, 20 had made this split and I was the only Aussie. All the big names were in there so I believed it was going to stay away, but we got caught by the second bunch with around 50km to go. I can honestly say I have never ridden in wind like I had this day. Along the beach we were riding at 10km/hr into a cross head wind. Three laps later and the field had blown to bits. I managed to get on the back of a small move of two that slipped off the front to come in 11th on the day. Quite possibly the hardest race I have ridden to date.I left Rabo Ster with my head held high, leaving the family and new friends I had made a month earlier to rejoin the Track girls who I knew the best. I was now back with my real Cycling family, the track endurance team. It was exciting and they had also had some success in the Kermesse in Holland so I was looking forward to some new team dynamics. The next big test being tour of Czech in July. After racing a few Kermesse in Holland with the track girls and making a few podium finishes and settling into my new home in Vaassen. It was time to make the trip to the tour of Czech. A 5 stage tour with something a little different... hills. It was going to be interesting. I dont lie when I say the number of times I wanted to quit, stop, to pull over and have a tantrum probably exceeded 20. This was proving to be tough. After the first road stage I knew it was going to be a long week. Nettie had managed to get second to Amanda Spratt in the first stage. An amazing effort and the whole team were proud. But it was the second day that was the turning point for me. The legs hadn't felt good. My body wasnt recovering as well as it had in the last month. The first half of the race was a struggle and but I rode into it, and sure enough with 40km my legs decided to show up. I went back to the team car and had a chat with Sutto. He said to me "today's your day.. lets go" and I rode back to the bunch smirking at what I believed to be a smart comment. The bunch re grouped with 20km to go and we went from having two Jayco girls to 5. It was game on. Sarah, Amy and Jose set the pace, all I had to do was lead Nettie out. I punctured and thought it was all over red rover. I raised the hand in the air. Jose was behind me and said "here stop take mine, you need to lead Nettie out", We stopped, changed wheels, the mechanic jumped out to give us a hand and when I got back on my bike I looked up to see Sarah and Amy had dropped back for me, I knew now I had no choice but to bury the head and go. They chased me up the last climb before I knew I had to go it alone. I dropped it into the 11 and went. I then noticed my team car slowly driving past me. If that wasnt an invitation for a motor pace I dont know what was. It wasnt easy, I wont lie, but I got on and made my way back to the front with 3.5km to go. Nettie and I found each other but it was a messy run in. I wasnt sure if we were going to make it work. We were 15 back coming into the last sharp left hander. I went in hard on the outside with Nettie on my wheel. Out of the corner the bunch swung to the left. I went down the right, buried my head for the last time to get my teammate across that line. A 500m lead-out for Nettie and she couldnt get around me so we got 1st and 2nd with Belinda Goss 3rd - an Aussie trifecta! I couldnt believe I had won, it wasnt meant to be me, but it was, and I was overjoyed. The next day consisted of a 20km ITT and then a RR in the afternoon. It was a long hard day but I got through it. I punctured in the last 1km and had to roll in behind the main peloton. But I finished and cant complain. The final day was the toughest. I was the only Jayco girl but couldnt hang on up the last climb with 3km to go. I rolled across the line, body aching but satisfied I had finished the hardest tour I had ever ridden. Only 3 Jayco girls finished the tour. But it was a whole team effort. Without them I would be lost. I would have had none of the results I have had without them.I'm now back in Vaassen Holland. All the girls are away on their holidays for 4 days but I have to train. I have my first race with Lotto on Saturday. A new chapter has started with my signing with Lotto Honda until December 31st 2011. Its another stepping stone closer to the goals I have in mind for 2012. Northern Districts Cycle Club (NDCC) was formed over 60 years ago to meet the

growing demand for competitive road cycling in Western Australia.

Over the years the club has grown to be a leader in competitive cycling in W.A.

We aim to be a professional, highly motivated and dedicated club which supports its members through the development of each member into a competent cyclist and the ongoing refinement of club events and activities to better serve the need of our members.

This can only be done in a safe and equitable race environment where each member is enabled to compete to the best of their respective abilities. As part of our involvement in cycling we seek to identify talented riders and where possible assist members to take their talent further. Although riders of any age are welcome, our club places heavy focus on junior development and provides a warm and nurturing environment in which developing riders can become stronger and more

proficient in the sport.

Wherever possible, Northern Districts Cycle Club aims to increase the awareness of and participation in cycling throughout the wider community. This is not limited to attracting new members, but also includes the use of safe riding practices at all times, such as in group training rides on public roads, and in the delivery of cycle skills and safety courses for both members and non-members of the club alike.

We will NOT be passing through Guildford. Ride is for U17s and upwards.BLACK ARMBAND SATURDAY (14 MAY 2011) As cyclists we wear different jerseys, ride with different teams,groups, shops or clubs however one thing doesn't change - we are a community who love and share the same passion. This Saturday, no matter where you are or who you ride with why not wear a black armband as a sign of your support and a showing of our strength and unity as a cycling community who together mourn the tragic passing of Wouter Weylandt of the Leopard Trek team and local Australian youngster, Shamus Liptrot both talented cyclists no longer with us. May they rest in peace.Whilst the passing of Wouter and Shamus has lead to this event being created let's also use this day to remember those that have lost their lives or been injured through racing/training accidents in the past.Remember you don't have to be on the bike on Saturday to show your support - you can wear the black armband wherever you will be.We'd like to say a massive thank you to the cycling community for getting behind this event! Leaving there at 7.45 am to continue up to Kalamunda, regrouping at the carpark opposite IGA ( Cnr Canning & Heath Rd). We will then leave Kalamunda approx 8.15 am & motorpace across to Brookton Highway,down through Araluen & back to Kalamunda via Canning Road. For the more adventurous they can comeback via the Peter Clark course/Mundaring Weir Rd.3 pickup points will allow riders of varying abilities to join us.Please RSVP on our Facebook page as it is important that we know who is coming and where you will be joining the ride. Not long into the race, as with all other grades it came down to survival of the fittest with a group of 3 that eventually became 5 settled in to fight out the final lap. The run to the line would see Anthony Giacoppo get a well deserved win with exciting 16 year old rider Brad Linfield finishing 2nd and Elliot Wells 3rd.In the A Grade womens race Jess Allen just seemed to wear the field down lap by lap until she was on her own soloing to a strong victory. Claire Aubrey came in for a courageous 2nd place with Isabella King taking a well earned 3rd.The pace was on from the start in the mens B Grade with young tyro Nic Mattock getting away to a 3 minute lead at one point, but the old heads in the bunch didnt panic and worked to bring it all back together after 4 laps. Andrew Brierley would eventually prevail over Rylan Fabrici with evergreen Mike Bonner in 3rd.Other highlights on the day were the strong performances of Kelsey Robson who decimated the U/17 Girls field to win by upwards of 7 minutes. The Tour de Perth is Western Australias premier road cycling event. First run in 2000, the Tour de Perth is back on the calendar in 2011 with the support of naming rights partner Healthway, aiming to promote the message to Be Active Cycle Instead. The 2011 Be Active Cycle Instead Tour de Perth will provide something for everyone, from families participating in the Amy Gillett Foundation Community Ride to elite cyclists fighting to be crowned the Be Active Cycle Instead Tour de Perth champion.
